Letterpress Poster // Hatch Show Print

40.00

We commissioned Nashville's Hatch Show Print to create this custom letterpress poster to celebrate our first year of map making and adventure taking. Hatch is one of the oldest printmakers in the country, a shop that we fell in love with on one of our own adventures, and we are honored to belong in some small way to their line of history.

This poster imprints the motto we live by and what our company name, EDIA, means: "Every day is an adventure, whether it is across the globe or in your own backyard." We believe you don't have to go far to have an adventure. Sometimes all it takes is the tiniest shift in perspective -- to crank the dial just a few degrees -- so that you see something ordinary that you've overlooked or that has become mundane as something extraordinary with many levels of experience. That's exactly what we set out to do with our maps, and we hope tacking this quote to your wall will be a reminder to approach everything with that attitude and openness.

Each poster has been printed by hand by one of the designers and printers at Hatch (pictured) -- much of it using hand-carved wooden blocks, some dating back to the opening of their print shop in 1879, and others with metal plates. Hatch has memorialized Southern culture in their prints, creating posters for everyone and everything from circuses, minstrel shows, and vaudeville acts to filling stations, grocers, and movie theaters. But they're most well-known for their show posters, working with crooners from the golden age of country music, like Hank Williams and Patsy Cline; jazz and blues artists, like Bessie Smith and Louis Armstrong; and more modern musicians, like Bon Iver and the Shins. The "E" that made its impression on our poster could have been the very same wooden block pressed into a 1967 Loretta Lynn showbill. Isn't that a lovely thought?
